Some Great (Free) Tools

Everything that a website marketing, internet marketing or SEO company does to promote a website is entirely doable by the business owner.

*Then why pay a company like Milton Website Design to do the work?

The answer is knowledge and experience.  We have been in the web business since 2002 and are CONSTANTLY learning, modifying and tweaking what we do.  Google's complicated algorithm changes and, as it does, so must our practice.

Having said that we do believe it is in our clients' best interest to be informed and to know what is out there and to know the variety of tools available to help promote their website.

Below is a list of 6 of our top recommended SEO tools.  We personally utilize most of them and often pay for the 'additional' services offered.  You however can definitely get away with their free versions which provide extensive information for your perusal.  We hope you can take some time to view the tools and see for yourself the vast amount of (free) information to help you promote your business online.

SEMrush SEO tool

SEMrush is quite frankly an amazing tool and thus why we place it as the first tool on our list.  It is one of the most popular and definitely most powerful tools for those looking to analyze their website.  If you look at Robbie Richards' website (one of the best in our opinion) he speaks of the top 143 SEO tools and SEMrush is #1.

Although ahrefs does not offer a free version you are able to utilize a free 2 week trial which will give you all the information you need for your business.  They have a MASSIVE database of keywords so is an incredible tool for keyword tracking.  It does offer much more though so be sure to check out their full suite of tools.

MOZ tools and resources for SEO

MOZ is by far our go-to when it comes to information about everything related to digital marketing, internet marketing, website marketing and SEO.  One of their coolest tools is the Open Site Explorer which allows you to easily check your domain authority.  It's a super cool way to check your link popularity and keyword phrases.

Buzz Sumo

We like this tool as it's great to catch the "Buzz" of other websites (thus the name "Buzz Sumo".  You can utilize this tool for social listening and for blog post ideas.  As we've mentioned in our Competitor Analysis post it's important to know what competitor posts are most shared.  Buzz Sumo also offers date range tracking!

Screaming Frog

Screaming Frog

Screaming Frog is yet another REALLY useful tool!  You need to download and install their program but it's well worth it due to the results it provides.  The tool will crawl competitor websites and fetch some amazing seo analysis.  The free version is a little limited but still very good.  We suggest trying it out for yourself!

Google Ads Keyword Planner

Google Keyword Planner

Google Ads (formerly Google Adwords) has an incredible tool in their keyword planner.  You need to activate a Google Ads account in order to use the tool but DO NOT need to actually run an ad.  The tool allows you to input a few keywords and it will tell you the top 100+ related keywords searched over the past year!

Are There More Tools?

Yes.  There are literally hundreds of tools (both paid and unpaid) that can be utilized to help you in optimizing your website and ensuring higher placement in Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs).  The websites above are those that we utilize on a regular basis and are also highly regarded in the SEO community.

A quick search of "Free SEO Tools" will give you an inexhaustible list of tools and many hours of reading.  In the end it's about educating yourself.  Whether you utilize the service of a company like Milton Website Design or chose to do the work yourself it's important to know the process.
